Redemption

I saw these brownies a couple of years ago...I thought hey what a great idea. Now, in my defense, before you see the next photo, I remembered that you can make pretty little stained glass cookies by melting jolly ranchers in the middle of sugar cookies with holes cut in them. This first photo is from Sunset Magazine, and this is what the brownies are SUPPOSED to look like. But think about those stained-glass cookies before you scroll down to the second photo...

This is what we would classify as an Epic. Baking. Fail. Oh my word. They did taste really, really good, but one of my friends' husband asked if I'd taken a fire extinguisher to them. To me the melted runny peppermints look like oozing eyeballs...haha...not very appetizing is it. =)

So then I looked up the recipe. Amazing how that helped!!!

What it actually is, is regular brownies topped with a nice little ganache and squares from a sheet of separately-melted peppermint discs. Not hard, but a million steps. SO pretty, though! I love the pattern from the mints the best.
