Take THAT, Ego!

I'm watching The Biggest Loser and it just came to the part where Jillian had to eat some of the contestant's meals that they had prior to joining the show. She said that their gross nachos and processed fried stuff was not food, and I say stuff like that ALL the time. People might think it's bad or weird that my kid knows that we don't eat or drink things with high fructose corn syrup or too much sugar, but soon enough she's going to be out having to make her own choices and eating healthy food as part of a healthy lifestyle is really, really important to me and Paul.

Okay, so remember that.

After we came in from playing outside in the glorious sunshine, the girls were "helping" me do my exercises (Ab Ripper X! Woooo!) and I was just in a sports bra and shorts because I was sweaty, sorry for the TMI. After "we" were done, we flipped on some Harry Potter and fast forwarded to the "scary" part with the weird mermaids because the scary parts are the the only parts Carly likes and we were sitting up against the edge of the couch. Still with the sports top and shorts, remember that.

Okay, so a commercial for toaster streudel or poptarts or some other awful sugary completely not nutritious "kid food" comes on and Carly starts talking about how we don't eat that because it has too much sugar and fat and fat is bad. So we hit the pause button to discuss (yet again) how people need to eat fat and we talked about where you can find good fat, like almonds and avocados and salmon, aka NOT processed junk in bright boxes. We talked about how babies need a lot and a lot of good fat to help their brains grow, medium kids like Bree need just a lot of good fat because they're getting older, great big kids like Carly need a medium of good fat to help them stay focused and healthy and grownups need just a little of good fat...and at that point Carly interrupted me and said:

"Oh yeah you only need a little of good fat because you still have lots RIGHT THERE that is sticking out on your shorts and Bree and me we don't have that part on us."

As she pokes my belly.

Nice.

All jokes aside from FB and my protest that nacho cheese is real food, I too teach the boys that they should stick with food from the outside of the store and not the shelves. They often ask why they can't have candy from various parties or why their friends have such and such. It's not an easy battle, but in the long run it's well worth it. Even though we do do fast food periodically, at home it's food we've cooked from scratch, which is so not easy with my schedule. But we do it b/c I want the boys to be healthy in the long run. Keep up your valiant fight! And remember Andy's nice comment about my number on the scale--"WOW! That's a really big number!" It's all about their short/little perspective!

Yeah I've heard a version of that from my two lovely munchkins as well. Darn honest, and observant, kids!

OH NO!!! I have to say that I am laughing. I am sorry. I am not laughing at you. I am laughing with you. Well, with the laughing you will do later! Kids really say the darndest things!!

BTW: I love bright boxes. Maybe you can show me how to be healthier when you move here?
