We are totally taking a Big Adventure here during the day. It is so neat, and randomly tucked right into the middle of our side of town. There are trails throughout the woods behind the nature center and it looks like it would be beautiful during the day. For this event, they set up stations along the short trail and inside the center...it wasn't really haunted or scary and it was perfect for Carly and her buddy Lucy.

Please pardon Paul's expression...he really wasn't as miserable as he looks. =)

Hello, Skeleton Lucy!

Inside, they have an "Animal Mortuary" where they have all kinds of skulls and skins of different animals. This is the first Frankenfish of the night (keep an eye out for the second one...it's much cuter) and Carly thought it was so funny that the fish had hair.

The second part of their kid-friendly haunted tour inside was called "Visit the Undead" and they had a live owl! Carly wanted to hold the bird, but the lady was explaining how that probably wouldn't be such a good idea.

Then the Creepy Cavern! Soooo funny to watch...they had these black boxes with stuff like dried rice (lice), orzo (maggots), something to be brains, and lots more stuff. These are little pieces of cooked linguine and the sign above said they were tape worms. You should have seen Carly JUMP when she reached her hand in there to feel it.

At the next box, she's telling her dad "No thank you" when he told her she should feel what was inside.

But she had no problem feeling whatever this gigantic bug is at our first stop along the hike.

In the lower right-hand corner are a pair of eyes...we were supposed to count them to win a prize, but we didn't see any until after we were going through the photos. =) This is one of the many giant trees that fell down during the hurricane.

At our last stop on the hike...this is about half a second before Carly tried to kiss the rat.
We had a really fun time; the weather was perfect and Carly held it together remarkably well considering the Haunted Hike opened right at 7:30 which is her normal bedtime.

....and Bree slept.
