Carly had a reading workbook she just finished. The last section was on George Washington's gristmill and Carly's prize for finishing was a field trip to the mill. The website didn't mention that the mill would be closed today, but we walked around the grounds and saw how the water flowed. That was cool! This is a photo of the bottom floor of the mill barn snapped through a window. I'm so excited to come back another day.
The main house, inn, stables and gardens are a little further down the road. We came up from the gym because I was faking out the girls with this surprise trip, and in that 25-minute drive the temperature dropped 8 degrees and it started raining. So...we are saving the main house and grounds for when Daddy's here. But it was so fun to walk around the mill yard. I am hoping that when Carly grows into her beloved rainbow dress it will look more like a cute little drop-waisted play dress than a tube sock. For now, though...I think she sort of looks like an inchworm. A very happy and colorful inchworm. =)

That looks great! Jeez I wish it was warm enough to venture out without hats, mittens or coats!
I haven't been there since my wedding day! Kids and I will DEFINITELY have to go this summer. Wish you could go with us!
