I asked Carly a few days ago what her favorite places to go are and she said the bookstore and the toystore...lucky for us, Portland has Finnegan's, an awesome toystore, and Powell's books, a five-story, city-block sized mecca of new and used books of all kinds.

But first, we drove up, up, up the big mountain downtown to ride this crazy air tram. My parents and I were terrified, but we had to act like it was SO FUN so Carly didn't freak out. The middle post of the tram ride is right over the highway and the whole tram car swings...so scary!

I think these next photos are a little out of order, but Finnegan's is seriously the BEST store ever. They have all the good stuff, it's like Oompa.com in person. Loved it! They even have a counter in the back with tin wind-up toys...my dad got this cool duck riding a tricycle.

We stopped for lunch at Habibi on Morrison (highly recommend it!) where Bree ate about a quart of hummus and thirty black olives.

Taking a walk with Grammy after lunch - the weather was soooo beautiful. Bree has on Baby Legs because I packed for Louisiana, not for the perfect low-70's weather we enjoyed in the first part of the week.

In Finnegan's...this is Mr. Beeps and Bree's reaction to meeting him for the first time. She was so excited!

I should have gotten a photo of the main floor of Powell's, because it is unbelievable. Each section is color-coded, and the kids' section is the size of your average Borders...like the WHOLE store. The girls were starting to get kind of tired, or we could have spent all day (and a lot of money) there. They mix in the used books with the new, which is awesome...if you're in Portland you should definitely go here.

Carly's prize from Finnegan's was Macy the Mermaid. And also - on your birthday, you get to wear whatever you want, even if it doesn't match.

While Carly explored some of the huge books in this reading section, Bree practiced her standing and had a long conversation with her new best friend.

Then she PASSED out.

We went straight from downtown Portland to Aunt Dotties beautiful house overlooking Mt. Hood for Carly and Aunt Janet's birthday celebrations. Aunt Dottie and Uncle Don ordered this cake to Carly's EXACT specifications (the bakery forgot to make it a chocolate cake but Carly didn't notice)...Carly thought it was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen.
