The Great Garden Project, Episode 6

For a long time, we had limited, VERY limited growth. Then I got some advice to not water quite as often and to add some organic fertilizer. Within two days, we had more sprouts! This first photo is of the lettuce, which is adorable, but will probably not grow big enough to eat before it gets too hot and it all burns up. People are always skeptical that I planted lettuce, but I have to tell them I planted IN FEBRUARY when it should have had plenty of time to grow...maybe next year!
Tiny little zucchini plants with tiny little flowers. The guy told me the problem was the soil I used. Miracle Grow soil isn't totally composted when you buy it...he said this year I have to fertilize like crazy but next year we should rock it.
My tomato plants...I still have my doubts about these. Most people have these tall, lush plants by the end of May, and we have green-ish twigs. But there are flowers! So I have some hope.
Miraculously, this mint survived being chomped to the soil by two little ponies. You can still see some yellowing from the trauma it sustained, but it is spreading, so I have hope for it, too. The other herbs never even had the courage to sprout (probably smart of them to just stay under the soil), so we'll try again with those next year.
As for our other plantings, the elephant ears are NOT looking good, and neither are the poor calla lillies. Our caladiums came up and the lilly out by the mailbox is blooming. The front part of the big bed in the front of the house is spilling over with chrysanthemums from last year and my confederate jasmine is growing well. I put in some heliobores around, and am sad because my star jasmine that smells so pretty isn't blooming. It is still alive, which is good...any normal person would give up by now, but I'm determined to figure this stuff out. We are smart people for the most part...it just cannot be THIS hard to keep plants alive!

FYI, mint is the plant that keeps on giving. It will take over if you let it. (Tell Paul it's like his mother in law. Should get a chuckle)

Yay for pictures!
Forget keeping them alive--I'm impressed that you know the names of all of these plants and flowers!
