We went to this place called Lucy's tonight for dinner...it reminds me a lot of Mas Fina Cantina in Carlsbad, same vibe, which was really nice for us since we miss SoCal so much. Anyway, Lucy's has a crawfish boil with live music every Sunday, so we headed down.
When Paul's heaping plate of crawfish arrived, the conversation went something like this:
Carly (staring): WHAT. Is. That.
Paul: These are crawfish! Do you want one?
Carly: Those are lobsters. And yes.
So he put a whole crawfish on her plate and immediately she started petting its dead, boiled head.
Carly: Oh, it's beautiful. (To the crawfish) You are beautiful. (To Paul) So...I eat it now?
Paul: Sure, but first I have to - (As Carly tries to bite of the head) - peel the tail part.
Carly: WHAT?!
Paul: Yeah, watch.
She was fascinated with the pulling-off-the-legs part and she loved "the white part" ie, the meat that you're actually supposed to eat. My strange child liked for Paul to put the whole head on her plate so she could talk to it while she ate. Later, she started really examining the head, and she put it right in my face...
Carly: Mom, what he eyes DOING?
Mommy: Nothing. He's dead.
Paul: Yeah, he's dead, Daddy killed him.
Carly: (wide-eyed) WHAT?! Daddy kill him? Daddy kill him!
So she put the crawfish head on the table and BAM Paul squished it with his fist. Crawfish brains and guts went everywhere. So what does Carly do?
BAM. She squished it again and then pulled apart the head. And then laughed like a maniac. =)
