The first of the family-friendly parades was last Sunday and how it works is you back your car up to the road and hang out to wait! It was a pretty day, not too much wind and just a tiny bit cold...as you can tell from Paul's squinty eyes, there was plenty of sunshine to go around!
Funny - Carly was supersquirmy, and Paul asked if she could sit still for one second. She sat still for exactly one second. =)
This lady had on a jacket with the word "bumblebee" hand-stenciled across the back. We thought she was there to help the littlest kids get the beads and everything, until the bigger floats started throwing out the "good" beads - really big or special shapes - and those beads made it into her bumblebee bag. See Carly's face? She said "Thank you! Where is the BIG beads go?"
Then Carly figured out that if you wave at the floats and say "hi boy" or "hi ladle-ee" then people throw things to you.
Like this delicious and healthy Moon Pie, fo example.
Then she traded up to the bumblebee.
....until she traded up to this sparkly pink fairy wand...
About twenty feet behind the last float came huge city trucks with garbage collectors and street sweepers. These guys blew all the trash into the street to get picked up...in about fifteen minutes, you'd never be able to tell a parade even happened.
Silly and tired Carly with ALL the beads!
And then the next day while the movers were here in the house, Carly and I got the heck out and found this. I kept trying to get her to say "Now that's what I'm talkin' about" but she was too tired and grumpy and she didn't do it.
